Would you like to become a Squash
Coach?
There are many reasons why someone might want to become a
certified coach. Here are just a few of them:
- You may be an intermediate player and would like to teach
your own children the fundamentals of the game.
- You might like to help out at your club with the beginners
and juniors.
- You may be a teacher in the school system with little
squash experience but would like to add an “Introduction
to Squash” component into your physical education
unit.
- ·You may be an excellent player who would like
to make a part time or even a full time career out of coaching
the sport you love.
Even if you don’t pursue coaching, you will be better
able to “coach” yourself and improve your own
game.
How to get started
Contact your Provincial Squash
Office.
Find out when the next “Coaching Foundations Course”
is being offered and sign up. This course is an exciting,
informative experience that takes place, for the most part,
on the court, experimenting and understanding the fundamentals
of basic strokes, and the strategies and tactics of the game.
The goals are fun, fitness, fundamentals, and performance.
The theory of coaching is offered in the form of Multi-Sport
Modules. These are available through your Provincial or Territorial
Coaching Coordinators, or as take home study. A series of
six core modules have been packaged into to parts. Part A
consists of 1. Make Ethical Decisions, 2. Planning a Practice
and 3. Nutrition. Part B consists of 4. Design a Basic Sport
Program, 5. Teaching and Learning and 6. Basic Mental Skills.
Every coach, in fact, everyone in this day and age, should
take “Make Ethical Decisions”. There is a charge
for the module. There is no charge for the on-line Ethics
evaluation.
