2010 - Wall of Fame Inductees

Squash Canada welcomed four new inductees into the Squash Canada Wall of Fame last Saturday during the BC Honda 2010 Canadian Squash Championships at the Jericho Club in Vancouver. It is individuals like these four who have inspired and given us national pride through their accomplishments, dedication to the sport and promotion of the game.

CONGRATULATIONS -Class of 2010!

Anne Smith - BUILDER

Anne defines the word “dedication” to growing and promoting the game of squash. She acted as President of Squash Canada for 8 years and Vice President of World Squash Federation. Anne is currently the Director of 3 WSF Commissions: Anti-doping, Medial and Therapeutic yet still manages to keep up a stellar playing record with well over 30 National, Ontario and World titles in singles, hardball and doubles.

Stuart Dixon - COACH

Victoria’s Stuart Dixon is one of Canada’s most experienced and respected coaches and has been instrumental in the development of many of our top athletes. Stuart is a 6 time National Coach and 4 time Assistant National Coached. Stuart as a Level 4 coach has conducted over 82 NCCP Courses across Canada and continues to instill passion and technique in many young players today.

Barry Faguy - OFFICIAL

Barry a native of Montreal is Canadian A-1 and WSF International referee has been officiating across Canada since 1992.  He has officiated at all four Panam Games and numerous World Championships, PSA & WISPA events, and Canadian Championships. When not officiating he has been acting as editor for the past 16 years of the The Squash Official newsletter and is currently a member of other WSF Rules Sub Committee.

Gary Waite - PLAYER

Gary, a native of Ontario, has the elite honour of obtaining the highest combined ranking of three squash disciplines, in the history of squash. (Softball singles, hardball singles and hardball doubles). Gary played on 6 Canadian Men’s teams winning gold at the 1995 Panam Games for both singles and team and reached #1 in the world in Men’s hardball in 1992. Notably, Gary was the first Canadian to reach #12 (in 1993) in the world in softball singles on the PSA – paving the way for the next wave of Canadian men.  Before retiring in 2008 Gary had won 13 National titles, 7 World Doubles titles and well over 100 professional doubles titles.

It is our dream that one day there will be a permanent venue for the Wall of Fame for all squash enthusiasts to appreciate the legacy.
