It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Leggat on January 29th, 2018, at 89 years of age. Born in Hamilton, Ontario to the late Roy Leggat and Florence Leggat (nee Walker) in 1929, Don will be remembered for his kind and quiet spirit, his Christian faith, and love of family and friends.

Don had a clear passion for sports and he will be remembered fondly for his outstanding contributions to the squash community in Ontario. He won 23 National Championships, countless Provincial Championships, and numerous invitational events in both Canada and the United States. Known by many as the “Silver Fox,” he was a fierce, but fair competitor on the court and was inducted into the Squash Hall of Fame in 2009.

Don also loved golf, water sports, and competition of all kinds with his family around the cottage in Muskoka. He hosted legendary paddleball tournaments at Penman Island and frequently participated in the Muskoka Lakes Association regattas. He was always up for a game or a challenge and he inspired this level of commitment and competition in all who knew him.

He will be greatly missed by Audrey Leggat (nee Smith), his loving wife of 58 years, his daughter Joanne Leggat and his sons Steven Leggat (Kirsten) and Scott Leggat (Suzanne). He was the proud grandfather of Chelsea Miller (Adam), Katharine Leggat and Smith Leggat. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Doug Leggat (Maryella) and his many nieces and nephews. He was recently predeceased by his older brother Bob Leggat and his sister-in-law Carol Leggat (nee Purdy) in 2017.

Special thanks go to the doctors and nurses at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for all of their care. A Memorial Gathering will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), Monday, February 5, 2018, from 4-8 pm. For those who wish, donations in memory of Don may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or World Vision.
