Quebec looks to defend Canadian Masters Team Title

OTTAWA, ON, January 10, 2019 – Quebec looks to defend their 2018 title on home soil as the 2019 Canadian Masters Team Championships are set to begin this weekend (January 11-13, 2019) and hosted by Squash Outaouais (Sporthèque) in the beautiful city of Gatineau.

With nine fiercely competitive teams from across Canada participating (including two teams from Quebec as the host province), the event is going to be one of the most exciting to watch as they compete for the national title.

The Masters Team Championship consists of seven players per team (four men and three women) in the age divisions of Men’s 40+, 45+, 50+ and 55+ and Women’s 40+, 45+ and 50+.  But what makes this event interesting is teams must designate their playing order based on the player’s strength so you may get a 40+ player competing against a 50+ player (and not necessarily a player from their age category).

“The Canadian Masters Teams event has been a most popular stalwart in the Canadian squash calendar for many years now, which brings together the country’s very best “mature” squash talent in what can be considered by some, the most rewarding way to play squash, in Teams” said Squash Canada President Steve Wren.  “It’s wonderful to see the event come back to be played in the Province for the 3rd time, and in the pleasant winter surroundings of the National Capital Region.  With the Teams Championships being managed under the most capable hands of Maxym Leclair (Director – Squash Outaouais) and his team, the event promises to highlight the beacons of Canadian Masters squash: camaraderie, athleticism, wellness, social character, and not to be discounted, fervent competitiveness.”
