Canada’s best squash players took to the courts from June 1-5 at the 2022 Oxford Properties Canadian Squash Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia. With almost 400 participants coming from every corner of Canada to compete for 32 National titles at 6 venues, the tournament provided all those involved with memories that will last a squash lifetime.
This historic event was headlined by the Men’s and Women’s Open categories that showcased Canada’s most talented squash players, some of whom are highly ranked in the World. And in the end, these players proved why they were the best of the best all week with Hollie Naughton, ON (World ranked #20) and David Baillargeon, QC (World ranked #61) capturing their respective National Open Championships. For Naughton this was her third National title (2022, 2017, 2016) and for Baillargeon his second consecutive National title (2022, 2021). Congratulations to Nicole Bunyan, BC and Shawn Delierre, QC for capturing Silver medals as well as Nikki Todd, SK and Nick Sachvie, ON for taking home Bronze medals.
“What an incredible tournament this has been. I can’t thank Squash Canada enough for putting on such a memorable and picture-perfect event,” exclaimed David Baillargeon. “The tournament was a success all along, thanks to all the Squash Canada workers, the volunteers, the sponsors, the referees, and the packed crowd we had all week. I can’t think of a better place to win the Canadian National Championships and this week will be one I remember for the rest of my life. Thanks to everyone who made this tournament happen.”
“It’s been a great week competing at this year’s nationals in Vancouver” says Hollie Naughton. “It was an amazing venue that really showcased squash! Jamie, Sam and Squash Canada worked tirelessly to make this event run smoothly and despite some rain delays it did! I want to say a huge thank you to them for helping raise the profile of squash within Canada. I am thrilled to win my third national title and finish the season on a high! Nationals always adds a little more pressure than any other event and that’s what makes it sweeter to win the title! I can’t wait to get back into training after a couple days to reset and spend some time with family and friends! Until next year!”

“Vancouverites and their fellow squash enthusiasts enjoyed a very full schedule of top-level squash at the all-glass Power Court erected at Jack Poole Plaza,” stated Squash Canada President Sandra Thompson. “Squash Canada, partnered with Squash BC and their full contingent of volunteers, did an outstanding job in tandem with key partner Oxford Properties in staging this first ever outdoor Canadian squash event. There was a solid group of both local and national sponsors who helped make this happen, not just at Jack Poole Plaza, but at supporting venues Evergreen Squash Club, Jericho Tennis Club, YWCA Fitness and Racquet Club, Vancouver Racquets Club, and anchor Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club. The only area of non-cooperation came from the sky which produced another first – rain delayed squash matches!”
Thank you to everyone who was a part of this historic tournament including organizing committee members, sponsors, participants, referees, volunteers, and spectators.
