For the first time in it’s 82-year history, the Canadian Doubles Squash Championships is set to hit the courts in Calgary.  Starting today, hosted by the Glencoe Club in Calgary, over 250 participants from 3 countries will play over 120 matches during the five-day event as competitors vie for the national title in 14 categories.

Throughout Canada, five provinces (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec) house all 45 doubles courts in the country.  The Canadian Doubles Squash Championships have been played every year since 1934 (with the exception of 1938) and 2016 marks the first time this championship has ever been held in Alberta.  With doubles squash rapidly growing in Calgary over the past few years it was a natural fit for the championships to “go west” and it is no surprise that the turnout of local players has been so high.  With the likes of new comer and Calgary Winter Club squash pro Ian Power and local favourite, Calgary Flames VP Rollie Cyr in the mix, Western players are ready to make their mark on the Canadian doubles scene.

With four courts in the city of Calgary, the Glencoe Club has partnered with the Calgary Winter Club, the Bow Valley Club and WorldHealth, Edgemont to put on the 2016 Rogers Insurance Canadian Doubles Squash Championships.

Having a knack for hosting premiere events, the prestigious Glencoe Club is sure to put on first-class championship that will showcase all the excitement doubles squash has to offer.  The event will feature many returning national championships looking to defend their title, as well as some of North America’s top teams such as Stephanie Hewitt and Seanna Keating (Toronto, ON), Dana Betts (New York, NY) and Nikki Todd (Regina, SK), Scott Arnold and Robin Clarke (Toronto, ON), Thomas Brinkman and Will Mariani (Toronto, ON) and Robert Birrell and Jacob Hooker (Calgary, AB).

Visitors in Calgary and surrounding area are encouraged to go check out some matches. Can’t be there in person? They’ve got you covered! Matches played on the Glencoe Club court will be live streamed at https://www.worldplaylive.com/squashcanada, as well as matches played WorldHealth, Edgemont will be lived streamed at Squash Nation Live Stream https://youtu.be/Si7h1ZykG8Y
