Less than a month ago Abdelrahman Dweek, of Alberta, claimed the Boys U15 crown at the 2016 Canadian Junior Open, now more than 5,500km away from the court he won the title on, Dweek remains as the lone Canadian in medal contention at the 2017 British Junior Open.
Seeded 9/16 entering the tournament, Dweek has played with determination, smarts, and skill throughout. To reach the Quarter-Finals, Dweek knocked out 3/4 seed Mohd Amir Mirul (MAL) 3-1 and then USA's Dana Santry 3-0 to reach the Semi-Finals.

The first Canadian to reach the semi-finals since Laura Gemmell did so in 2009, Dweek faced another tough opponent from Malaysia, 5/8 seed Duncan Lee. Dweek won the first game but ultimately lost the match 3-1 to Lee (4-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-6).
Dweek now waits to see who he'll face in the battle for 3rd – number 1 seed Yahia El Nawsany (EGY) or 3/4 seed Sam Todd (ENG). The 3rd place match is set for Friday January 6 at 11:45am local time.
