The other two players advancing were Kristen Lange of the U.S., and Nayelli Herdandez of Mexico who eliminated Stephanie Edmison of Toronto 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 14-12.
‘’Carolyn defeated Samantha in a tough and physical 4 games,’’ said Canadian coach Shauna Flath of Vancouver. ‘’Melanie played outstanding tactical squash as she slowed down the pace with Leoni and her patience and court awareness was definitely evident.’’
Jans faces third-seed Samantha Teran of Mexico in her opening round main draw match while Russell faces Engy Kheirallah of Egypt.
Two Canadians were pre-qualified for the main draw. Miranda Ranieri of Waterloo, Ont., faces top-seed Jaclyn Hawkes of New Zealand and Alexandra Norman of Montreal battles fourth-seed Latasha Khan of the U.S.
