Squash Canada has named the 24-athlete roster for the 2018 Battle of the Border that will compete next week from August 2-5. In its fourth year as a Squash Canada National Team event, the ‘Battle of the Border’ is an annual event that sees Canada face off against the neighbours to the south showcasing some of North America's top junior talent.
Hosted by the White Oaks Resort and Spa (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON), the Battle of the Border features six age groups (Girls U13, U15, U17 and Boys U13, U15, U17).
The Battle of the Border is a unique development opportunity for some of Canada’s rising stars to represent their country at a young age. Looking to reclaim the title after a tough but close loss in 2017 (for complete results from the 2017 Battle of the Border, visit: http://squash.ca/en/news/canada-edged-out-usa-battle-border-victory), Team Canada’s roster features 8 returning players from 2017 who will lead the charge for the red and white.

14-year-old Molly Chadwick will make her third straight appearance in the Battle and will be hitting the White Oak courts as the reigning Canadian U15 Champion. On the boys’ side, 2018 Canadian Boys U17 Finalist, Nikhil Ismail will also make his third appearance for the Canadian squad. Amongst the talented veterans are some exciting rising stars like 2018 Canadian Girls U11 Champion, Keira Hickox, and 2018 Canadian Boys U15 Champion, Gabriel Yun.
Each year, the talented young players are supported and led by an equally talented group of coaches. Leading the Canadian contingent this year is an impressive group of coaches Matt Easingwood (ON), Melina Turk (YK), Derek Moore (ON), Marci Sier (ON), and Chris Sachvie (ON). Under the leadership of Squash Canada’s Athlete Pathway Manager, Graeme Williams, the coaches will guide the talented and passionate Canadian juniors as they battle it out to reclaim the title.
