Canada’s Student-Athletes Set to Compete at the 2025 Jesters Canadian University and College Championship in Montreal, QC

The 2025 Jesters Canadian University and College Championship presented by the City of Montreal kicks off this Friday at McGill University (March 14 – 16), bringing together Canada’s top student athletes across the country for a thrilling weekend of competition. This year’s championship is set to be the most significant in a decade, with record participation levels and an elevated event with thanks to the McGill tournament team.

This year’s edition features the largest draw in the past decade, with over 75 entrants representing seven provinces and territories and more than a dozen postsecondary institutions. Moreover, this iteration is the most inclusive yet, offering competition across four divisions (Open, A, B, and C), underscoring the rapid growth and increasing appeal of squash at the postsecondary level.

The Women’s draw shines with standout competitors including a determined Sarah Aki from McGill University as well as Shirin Batra from the University of Toronto. On the Men’s side, reigning champion and NextGen Squad member Maximilien Godbout of the University of Quebec in Montreal returns, with University of British Columbia’s Matt Bicknell, who is ready to challenge the field.

“We’re really happy to welcome student-athletes from across Canada to this year’s championship,” says tournament co-chair Mohamed Kamal. “It’s great to see how the event has grown, a true reflection of the passion and commitment in the university squash community. It’ll be a weekend full of great matches, and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come to life”.

As the host venue, McGill University is a prime backdrop for this prestigious event, with its vibrant student-scene and storied history in university athletics. As athletes descend on to Montreal, the event promises spirited matchups and an electric atmosphere on and off the court.
