About CANSquash
CANSquash is a standardized national curriculum for squash participants and coaches of all ages and abilities. Based on Squash Canada’s Long-Term Development (LTD) framework, CANSquash will provide coaches and volunteers a series of standardized lesson plans and resources, offering new and returning participants a consistent squash experience from coast to coast. The 2025-26 CANSquash pilot will focus on the FUNdamentals (ages 5-10) and Skill Development (ages 8-16) modules with Training, Competition, Performance, Active for Life and School squash modules to follow.

FUNdamentals - Ages 5 to 10
LEARN THE BASICS AND GET READY TO HAVE FUN! It’s never too early to start playing squash and these action-packed sessions are designed to help children and youth develop hand eye coordination required to play squash or any other sports in the future.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT - Ages 8 to 16
LEARN THE DIFFERENT SHOTS USED IN SQUASH! The focus is on enhancing basic squash techniques learned in FUNdamentals with continued emphasis on making it FUN for children and youth looking to take their squash to the next level. Three new shots are introduced. Emphasis on Rallying, Movement and Games.
TRAINING - Ages 10 to 18
LEARN SQUASH TECHNIQUES, MOVEMENT AND TACTICS For players developing squash skills, techniques, movement patterns and squash tactics. It is for keen young squash players that are striving to reach the elite junior level. Although there is a real focus on improving squash skills, there is still the added element of fun and games!
COMPETITION - Ages 12+
GAME TACTICS AND FITNESS TRAINING FOR ADVANCED JUNIORS A range of dynamic routines, themed conditioned games, match practice, and targeted fitness training, designed to meet the needs of high-level juniors, There is also some emphasis on tactical awareness and mental toughness.
PERFORMANCE - Ages 16+
HIGH LEVEL TACTICS, TRAINING, AND FITNESS. For the most aspiring players currently competing at Platinum and Gold NJC, and professional levels. The Performance program is the next level in training and incorporates high level tactical sessions, fitness sessions, and structured match-play.

Most CANSquash programs welcome children as young as 5 or 6 years old, although the minimum age may vary by club.
Not at all! CANSquash is designed specifically for beginners. No previous squash experience is required.
Most clubs provide racquets and eye protection for first-time participants. All you need is comfortable athletic clothing and clean indoor running shoes.
Absolutely! CANSquash is for everyone. Many clubs offer beginner programs for adults who are looking to learn the game in a welcoming environment.
