Ottawa (ON) – The Canadian World Junior Team have touched down in Namibia, South Africa and are preparing themselves for round 1 of the 2014 World Junior Squash Championships. The tournament will commence on Sunday August 10th and finish on August 20th. The 10 days will consist of individual play followed by the team event.
Ottawa (ON) – The Canadian World Junior Team have touched down in Namibia, South Africa and are preparing themselves for round 1 of the 2014 World Junior Squash Championships. The tournament will commence on Sunday August 10th and finish on August 20th. The 10 days will consist of individual play followed by the team event.
The championships will host over 150 athletes from 30 nations across the world. This is the first time a squash World Championship has ever been held in a South African country. Opening ceremonies will take place on Saturday, August 9.
Canada has 5 athletes in the men’s division competing against 110 other athletes. Here are the first round draws.
· David Baillargeon will face USA’s Thomas Kingshott
· Jarryd Osbourne will face Germany’s Sean Redmen
· Carter Robitaille will face Egypt’s Youssef Soliman (13/16)
· Michael Thompson will face Kuwait’s Mohammad Ali
· Michael Mehl will face against Finland’s Miko Äijänen.
Madlen O’Connor will be Canada’s only athlete competing on the Women’s side. She will face Sweden’s Linnea Wallsten in the first round. There are 44 other athletes competing to find the podium in the Junior Women’s draw.
