OTTAWA, ON, February 10, 2019 – A star-studded field that includes many of Canada’s top men and women are set to clash for National honours when their respective Team Championships are held this weekend (February 15-17, 2019).  The men will compete in “La Belle Province” at Club Sportif MAA in Montreal and the women will take centre stage in “The City of Champions” at the Edmonton Squash Club in Alberta.

As men’s play begins, Team Quebec #1 (seeded number two) will look to three-peat as Team Captain Shawn Delierre headlines the field as Canada’s top PSA player in the latest World Rankings (#76) as he leads his team of David Baillargeon and brother Jason Delierre into battle.  But standing in their way will be number one seed Team Ontario led by Team Captain Mike McCue (Word Ranking #91) with teammates Nick Sachvie and Graeme Schnell.  It will certainly be a toss up between the two teams as both squads feature members of the Squash Canada High Performance Squad.  For the rest of the field, they will certainly have their sights set on the big upset as they take aim at the top seeds in hopes to bring home the National Men’s Team title.

“Club Sportif MAA is proud to host the best Canadian squash players for the National Men’s Team Championships,” said Tournament Director Yvon Provencal.  “Quebec will be looking to three-peat but will face stiff competition from other provinces and mainly number one seed Ontario who is coming with what might be their strongest team ever.  Players will also participate in an international Doubles tournament in preparation for this summer's Pan Am Games.”

On the women’s side, reigning champion Team Ontario and number one seed come fully loaded with an impressive 1-2 punch.  Canada’s top ranked PSA players Samantha Cornett (World Ranking #34) and Hollie Naughton (World Ranking #36) alongside Seanna Keating will bring poise and experience making them the team to beat.  But not to be outdone, the rest of the field features top PSA talent as Team Alberta is led by Danielle Letourneau (World Ranking #37), Team Saskatchewan is led by Nikki Todd (World Ranking #56) and Team British Columbia is led by Nicole Bunyan (World Ranking #59).  These ladies and their teams will look to topple Ontario’s 1-2 punch in hopes to bring home the National Women’s Team title.

“The Edmonton Squash Club is extremely excited to host the 2019 Canadian Women's Team Championships presented by Black Knight in Edmonton, Alberta”, said Tournament Director Jeff Williams.  “We welcome the top women's players from all over Canada including the current National Champion Danielle Letourneau as well as three other past National Champions. We're anticipating a very exciting and competitive weekend and can't wait to get started!”
