SQUASH CANADA SEEKING INPUT FROM CANADIAN SQUASH COMMUNITY ON CONCEPT OF EXTENDING SPRING 2021 SEASON

Ottawa, ON (August 7, 2020) — As we evidence the lingering restrictions and risks, and/or in anticipation of a possible second wave of COVID-19 in Canada, it is becoming more evident that return to squash competition will be pushed into very late 2020 or into 2021.  Friendly and competitive matches are a driver of interest and participation amongst a large segment of the playing population.  It incents people to join, to attend the club on a regular basis, to take lessons, to get fitter and better.

The question being asked is whether a schedule of local, provincial and national tournaments concentrated in and later into 2021 in an extended season could benefit players, membership, clubs, squash pros, the industry, elite player development, squash organizations and the sport in general.

To encourage participation, membership, player development and the many benefits of playing squash, Squash Canada is evaluating the merits of extending the 2021 squash season by 4 to 6 weeks.
