Team Canada Returns to International Competition – Men’s World Team Championships, Pan-Am Youth Games, the Canadian Junior and US Junior Opens

Team Canada will return to international competition later this month as over 70 Senior, NextGen and Junior athletes will don the maple leaf for the first time since 2019.  With strict COVID protocols and precautions in place, Squash Canada is confident that our athletes can safely compete outside of Canada and are thrilled to announce 3 upcoming events.

First up is the inaugural 2021 Pan-Am Youth (U23) Games held in Cali, Colombia – a first-time multi sport event featuring 25 sports and 3500 athletes.  The event is designed as a pathway to high performance and an ideal coming out party for our newly named NextGen squads.  Representing Canada will be Hannah Blatt (MB), Iman Shaheen (ON), Sydney Maxwell (ON), Ryan Picken (BC), Elliot Hunt (ON), Noel Heaton (AB), Coach Graeme Williams, Technical Director Reinaldo Rivas, Referee Andres Orozco and international delegate Lolly Gillen. You can follow our U23 team at https://www.panamsports.org/sport-events/cali-2021-junior-panam-american-games/ and find full Squash Canada athlete bios at https://squash.ca/nextgen-national-squad-player-bios/.

A week later, our Senior Men’s Team heads to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the 2021 Men’s World Team Championship December 7th – 12th.  The team will be led by recently crowned national champion David Baillargeon and joined by veterans Mike McCue, Shawn Delierre and the in-form Nick Sachvie as they take on 27 of the best squash nations in the world. For the ageless Delierre, it will be his 11th international cap first representing Canada in 2007. The 2021 team will be led by Coach Yvon Provençal and therapist Tim Marshall; you can find all event details at https://wsfmensteams.com/news/ and full Team Canada bios at https://squash.ca/national-team-bios/.

The action continues as 250 top international juniors take to the courts at White Oaks Spa and Resort December 11th – 14th for the 20th edition of the Canadian Junior Open (click here).  From there Squash Canada Director of Athlete Development Jamie Nicholls will lead a team of 61 athletes and 12 coaches to the 2021 US Junior Open hosted at the brand-new Specter Center in Philadelphia, PA December 18th – 21st to test our skills against the world’s best. Full team roster and USJO event details will be available in earlyDecember.

Hold on to your seats squash fans as Team Canada is BACK! Please join Squash Canada in congratulating and wishing our top athletes luck as they represent the red and white abroad.
