DECEMBER 6, 2022 – Squash Canada, in collaboration with its Provincial/Territorial partners and coaching community, is pleased to announce its National Squads for the 2022-23 season.
“Squash Canada is thrilled to support the hard-working National Squad athletes as they pursue their passion within our sport and beyond. We look forward to working with each athlete and their support teams to ensure our Squads have what they need to reach their goals,” said Squash Canada’s National Teams Coordinator, Samantha Cornett, 4-time national champion and former world number 23. The squads are a key pillar in Squash Canada’s rebuilding of our athlete development infrastructure as we look to maintain and expand our status as a world-leading nation over the next decade. These programs will provide a critical pathway and support system for aspiring juniors and recent graduates as they develop into PSA players that will one day wear the Maple Leaf and represent Canada as National Senior Squad athletes. Squads receive supportive programming from Squash Canada to assist with their national, international, and professional squash endeavours.
Some of the athletes are at the top of the game, while others are just beginning their journey. “Being a part of a passionate and driven group of Juniors is exciting! We are beyond honoured to be representing Canada,” exclaimed Ocean Ma of British Columbia, 2022 girls under 17 National Champion.
This talent squad is experienced and keen to take on international competition. Junior National Squad athletes will be looking towards the upcoming Canadian Junior Open, U.S. Junior Open, and British Junior Open, and subsequent National Junior Circuit and international events, culminating in the World Junior Championships next summer in Australia. Meanwhile, NextGen National Squad athletes will be targeting College and University squash results as well as PSA Satellites and Challenger events. Senior National Squad members are taking on the world at the top level of the game in PSA Challenger and PSA World Tour events, with eyes on the upcoming Women’s World Team Championships and next year’s Pan Am Championships and Pan Am Games.
“Being a part of the Junior National Squad is both an honour and a motivation for me to reach my full potential,” said Jacob Lin of British Columbia, who recently stepped onto the world stage for Canada at the 2022 World Junior Championships.
Congratulations to the selected athletes! We look forward to following your progress this season. Please join us in congratulating the following Canadian National Squad athletes:
