After receiving numerous rule change suggestions from players within the Squash Doubles community, the Squash Canada Doubles Committee, in collaboration with the US Squash Doubles Rules Committee, has implemented the following rules for the upcoming season:
- The addition of Rule 3.g. states that the opponent must not deliberately block the server or the server’s partner from moving around the court after the ball has been served.
-
- This addition to Rule 3 regarding Service is designed to ensure that the serving team has an unobstructed path back to their side (box) after the serve.
- Rule 4.a. now allows for the ball to strike the frame and strings of the racquet almost simultaneously without being considered a double hit.
- The addition of Rule 8.d. reads as follows:
-
- Where a player is struck by his own shot or his partner’s shot, he shall lose the point, except where an opponent swings at or shapes to play the ball. Where a player swings at or shapes to play the ball, and the ball subsequently strikes the striker or his partner, a let should be played, unless neither of the opponents would have had a play on the ball, at which time the striker’s team shall win the point.
These rule updates aim to enhance fair play, clarity, and the overall flow of doubles play. Players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these changes ahead of the 2025 championship season.
