Two athletes will represent Canada at the upcoming 2025 U23 World Squash Championships, set to take place from April 6 – 10 at DHA Creek Club in Karachi, Pakistan. Iman Shaheen (ON) and Karim Michael (QC) will don the maple leaf at this prestigious international tournament, where they will compete against the world’s best young squash athletes.
Organized by the World Squash Federation (WSF), the tournament features 32 top players per draw, vying for a share of the $60,000 USD prize purse and a spot in the PSA World Championships (May 9 – 17).
NextGen Squad Member Iman Shaheen is a two-time Canadian Junior Open U19 champion and a 2023 Canada Winter Games medalist (Bronze – Individual, Silver – Team). She also competed at the 2022 and 2023 World Junior Championships as a part of Team Canada. Since starting her professional career, she has reached a career-high world ranking of #131 and won four PSA titles. Shaheen will make her debut on April 7 against Hong Kong’s Heylie Fung [5/8] at 12:30 PM (PKT).
Karim Michael of Quebec is an accomplished Canadian squash player who continues to make his mark on the professional circuit. Currently ranked #256 on the PSA Tour, Michael has been competing in PSA events for the past five years, already securing six titles along the way. A silver medalist in the Individual Event at the 2023 Canada Winter Games, he also represented Team Canada at the 2022 Junior World Team Championships. As the U23 World Squash Championships get underway, Michael will begin his campaign on April 6, facing Malaysia’s Duncan Lee at 3:30 PM (PKT).
