The Arbutus Club in Vancouver delivered on every front in hosting its inaugural Canadian Squash Championship, as the 2026 Pollock Clinics Men’s Health Canadian Junior & Senior Championships Presented by Amica Senior Lifestyles wrapped following eight outstanding days of competition.
From April 25 to May 2, more than 600 athletes competed in junior and senior draws, with a combined 900 matches played across the city. At the centre of it all was the new Knapp Family Glass Court, which transformed the Arbutus North Gym into a true championship hub.
The Junior Championships, held earlier in the week, showcased the future of Canadian squash with strong performances across all age categories, including the Under-19 draws, where British Columbia’s Wing Kai Gladys Ho and Yusuf Matti-Alvarez claimed the titles. In the Women’s and Men’s Open draws, Hollie Naughton (ON) and David Baillargeon (QC) defeated the 2025 champions, Nicole Bunyan (BC) and Liam Marrison (ON), to reclaim the national titles—bringing the career tally to six for Naughton and five for Baillargeon.
In the Masters divisions, several familiar names continued to set the standard, with Gerry Poulton (BC) claiming the Men’s 80+ title, Matt Bishop (NS) winning Men’s 45+, and Kathryn Cowper (ON) taking top honours in the Women’s 65+. At the same time, a new wave of Masters talent emerged, with first-time Canadian age category champions crowned, including Kristen Iverson (Women’s 30+) and Stuart Akam (Men’s 35+). Off court, the 2026 Canadian Championships also celebrated the sport’s history, as Viktor Berg (BC), Shawn De Lierre (QC), David Pemberton-Smith (QC), and Gerry Poulton (BC) were formally inducted into the Canadian Squash Hall of Fame as the Class of 2026.
Squash Canada extends its sincere thanks to title sponsor Pollock Clinics Men’s Health, presenting sponsor Amica Senior Lifestyles, the Arbutus Club, and all our gold, silver, and bronze partners and patrons for bringing this championship to life.
Special thanks are also extended to Dave Glass, Tanya Foley, Terry Buckley and her dedicated team of volunteers, as well as Simon Bicknell, Sam Crawford and Les Homme along with their team of officials, for their collective, outstanding efforts.
