As the final part of its selection process for the Canadian squad to the 2017 Men’s World Team Championships in Marseille, France, the Canadian Men’s Team Trials event will hit the courts of Le Club Sportif MAA. From September 28 to October 1, six of Canada’s top male squash players have qualified to battle it out for a spot on the Canadian roster.
As the final part of its selection process for the Canadian squad to the 2017 Men’s World Team Championships in Marseille, France, the Canadian Men’s Team Trials event will hit the courts of Le Club Sportif MAA. From September 28 to October 1, six of Canada’s top male squash players have qualified to battle it out for a spot on the Canadian roster.
Nick Sachvie (St. Catharines) has already earned his place on the 2017 World team – an automatic selection earned by virtue of winning the Canadian Championship in May.
Looking to join Sachvie will be Andrew Schnell (Calgary), Shawn De Lierre (Montreal), Mike McCue (Toronto), David Baillargeon (Montreal), Graeme Schnell (Calgary) and Jason De Lierre (Montreal).
A preliminary qualification tournament was held in Montreal August 20-22, with seven competitors hoping to earn one of two places in the final Team Trials. Graeme Schnell and Jason De Lierre emerged from the qualifying event (see full results), to now join A. Schnell, S. De Lierre, McCue and Baillargeon, who earned direct entry into the final Team Trials event on the basis of their PSA rankings and 2017 Canadian Championship placement.
The trials will run in a full round-robin format, with the top three finishers securing their spot with Sachvie on the 2017 Canadian squad.

Once announced, the 4-member Canadian squad will begin final training as they prepare to head to France from November 26 to December 3 to compete for the world team title.
