Ottawa, Ontario  – The Canadian group is ready to start team event at the 2013 Pan-American Championships, after the singles and doubles events concluded on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Canada completed the first portion of the event with a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles event for Sam Cornett. Cornett, the defending silver medalist from the 2011 Pan-American Games, lost to American Natalie Grainger in well fought, five-game semi-final. Canada appeared in three more quarter final matches, with Dave Letourneau and Dane Sharp each dropping their matches in Men’s Singles, and the mixed doubles pairing of Cornett and Sharp losing a close match to the top-seeded mixed pair from Columbia.

The Team Competition starts today, where Canada’s young but energetic group is hoping to surprise some of their more experienced opponents. The Canadian team is made up of  Men’s National Team members Dane Sharp and David Letourneau, along with five-time Canadian University Champion Graeme Schnell. The women’s side includes defending Canadian Champion Sam Cornett, Canadian Junior Champion Hollie Naughton, and Canadian Championships bronze medalist Nikole Todd. Squash Canada Performance Director Jamie Hickox is with the team in Argentina as head coach. The event concludes on Sunday, September 8, 2013.
