BC and Saskatchewan Bring Excitement to Day 1
Squash was among the first sports to start competition in Week 2 at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, opening with the first round matches of the Men's and Women's Individual draws at the Northern Sport Centre tonight. Sixteen athletes competed in each draw, which includes at least one representative of each Province and Territory competing at the Games.
While all seeded players in both draws advanced easily to the quarterfinals, the night was not short on excitement. The last match of the night was also the longest of the night, as BC's Matthew Toth needed five games to top Saskatchewan's Thomas King, scoring 11-4, 6-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8.
The day started with practice sessions for all Provinces and Territories, as competitors were eager to check out the venue and take their first swings on the beautiful glass courts. Squash's set up at the Northern Sport Centre at UNBC is spetacular and is something all visitors to Prince George should try to see for themselves.
Play continues tomorrow morning at 9am, as the Team Competition gets underway with Round Robin action. Both Men's and Women's teams will play each day, and the individual competition will continue in the evening with quarterfinal matches.
The live streaming of the glass show courts begins tomorrow at http://sportscanada.tv/canadagames/index.php/week2/squash.
Stay tuned to the official results for match scores as they come in.
