OTTAWA, ON (September 30, 2014) – This weekend the National Squash Academy will be hosting the Squash Canada Women’s World Team Trials. These trials will determine who will represent Canada at the 2014 Shop.ca Women’s World Team Championships, to be held at The Club at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the-Lake from December 1-6, 2014.
The tournament will see ten athletes compete in two pools and seeded based on the latest Canadian ranking. Round robin play begins Thursday night, and each participant will play four matches within their pool on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, followed by playoffs on Sunday morning. The winners of each pool will be selected to join Samantha Cornett in representing Canada at the 2014 Women's World Teams, and a playoff match between the second place finishers in each pool will fill the final team spot.
The Women’s World Team Championships are held every two years, bringing together the top squash playing nations in the world. Finishing 13th in 2010 in New Zealand and 12th in 2012 in France, Canada will look to improve on these results and break the top ten at this year’s World Team Championships, which will be hosted right here in Canada.
The National Squash Academy welcomes any spectators who wish to catch the action and support Canadian squash. Matches begin at 6:00pm on Thursday, October 2nd, with the final group of matches to be played at 11am and noon on Sunday, when the team will be determined. Some matches will also be streamed online at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-2014-world-women-s-team-trials
