SQUASH CANADA ANNOUNCES HOSTS FOR FIVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

OTTAWA (August 20, 2019) — Squash Canada is thrilled to announce several host clubs and dates for 2020 Canadian Championships.  The events are the pinnacle of the squash season for over 1200 competitive players who have trained and dreamed of being crowned a Canadian Squash Champion.

Squash Canada is proud to see clubs from coast-to-coast come forward to take on hosting roles and provide an experience to players, coaches, and spectators.  Many of the selected clubs for 2020 have a long-standing history of hosting that have provided the squash community with an opportunity to compete on a grand stage and will look to do so again.

National Championships (as of August 20, 2019):

Canadian Men’s Team Championships – February 14-16, 2020
Winnipeg Squash Racquets Club, Winnipeg, MB

The private men’s only club came into existence in 1909 and has been a staple in Winnipeg ever since featuring health and social facilities as well as four Singles squash courts and one Doubles squash court.  “The Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club is thrilled to be awarded the 2020 Canadian Men’s Team Championships,” said Head Squash Pro Dave Glass.  “The WSRC has an extensive history of running PSA and National events and is very excited to have Canada’s best players compete at our club and for our local Squash enthusiasts!”

Canadian University and College Championships – March 6-8, 2020
Mayfair Lakeshore Racquet Club, Toronto, ON

The facility is one of four Mayfair Clubs located in the Greater Toronto Area and has become a hotbed for fitness and racquet sports by housing 13 Singles squash courts and one Doubles squash court.  “Mayfair Lakeshore is thrilled to be hosting the 2020 Canadian University and College Squash Championships,” stated Head Squash Pro Manu Dutt.  “We encourage student athletes from all over Canada to participate and enjoy this event in the heart of Toronto.  We look forward to welcoming Canada’s best young squash players to our state-of-the-art facility.”

Canadian Doubles Championships – April 2-5, 2020
Toronto Cricket, Skating & Curling Club, Toronto, ON

The club was founded in 1827 with the sport of Cricket and has since grown to include sports such as curling, skating, aquatics, fitness, squash and more.  The club features three Doubles squash courts (the most of any private club in Canada) and six Singles squash courts.  “The Cricket Club is once again extremely excited to host a national caliber event, specifically the Canadian Doubles as this is the pinnacle tournament of the season,” said Robin Clarke, Head Squash Professional. “We’ve hosted the Canadian Doubles five times in our history and each time around our membership embraces the competition and camaraderie that this event is so well known for. With our three doubles courts and a number of exciting ideas in the pipeline from our amazing committee of volunteers, we believe that this year’s event will be one not to miss!”

Canadian Junior Closed Championships – April 23-26, 2020
Cedar Hill Squash Club & St. Michaels University School, Victoria, BC

The club was created in 1991 and operates out of the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre boasting four Singles squash courts.  In addition, St. Michaels University School will support the event with four additional Singles squash courts.  “The Cedar Hill Squash Club and St. Michael’s University School are excited to host the 2020 Canadian Junior Closed Championships,” stated Ben Uliana, Tournament Chair and Cedar Hill Squash Club Head Pro.  “Victoria has hosted this event two times since 2000.  This is the best time of year to visit Victoria, and Victoria is honoured to watch the best Junior Squash in the country!”

Canadian Squash Championships – May 5-10, 2020
The Club at White Oaks, Niagara on the Lake, ON

The club was established in 1978 as part of the White Oaks Resort and Conference Centre and has a long-standing tradition of hosting events including the Canadian Junior Open (an international tournament that attracts over 300 junior athletes).  The facility features eight Singles squash courts.  “White Oaks, a four-diamond resort and spa in Niagara on The Lake, is very proud to continue our tradition of hosting great squash tournaments with the announcement that we have been awarded the 2020 Canadian Squash Championships,” said Squash Director Matt Easingwood.  “All of us here at White Oaks are very excited and we will be planning a great event that will combine world class competition with fun social activity.”

Please note the Canadian U23 Squash Championship will be held in conjunction with the Canadian Squash Championship in May 2020.  Locations for the 2020 Canadian Masters Team Championships (January 10-12, 2020) and 2020 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships (April 23-26, 2020) are currently being finalized and will be released in the coming weeks.  The 2020 Canadian Women’s Team Championships (February 14-16, 2020) is still searching for a host club – if your club is interested in submitting a bid for this event please contact Squash Canada.
