Each year, Squash Canada takes a moment during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to recognize the people who help make squash stronger in communities across the country with a Certificate of Achievement.
Through Provincial and Territorial Squash Organizations (PTSOs) nominations, the Certificate recognizes individuals and organizations whose longstanding contributions have helped grow, support and strengthen the sport at the provincial and territorial level and, in turn, across Canada.
Their commitment to squash, through volunteerism, leadership, advocacy or financial support, has made a lasting impact on the sport and the people who play it.
This year, Squash Canada is proud to recognize Cathy Brown (British Columbia), Randy Fransoo (Manitoba), Ken Goggin (New Brunswick), Leah Boody (Nova Scotia), Tom Scholberg (Ontario), Samantha Lawther (Prince Edward Island), Murtaza Albiz (Quebec), and Grayson Peters (Yukon) for their undeniable contributions to squash in Canada.
“Volunteerism is the backbone of our squash community and every season many individuals go above and beyond to help advance our sport. Squash Canada is proud to recognize these exceptional individuals and thank the countless others for their passion for the game and those who participate in it,” said Jamie Nicholls, Squash Canada CEO.
Squash Canada extends its sincere appreciation and warmest congratulations to this year’s recipients. Thank you for everything you continue to do for squash in Canada.
Certificate of Achievement Awardees
- Cathy Brown (British Columbia)
Cathy Brown has been a cornerstone of squash in British Columbia through her leadership, mentorship, volunteerism and sponsorship. She has supported championships, leagues and PSA events, helped save the BC Doubles Squash City League in 2018, and continues to contribute through Squash BC’s Post-Secondary Institution and Doubles Committees.
- Randy Fransoo (Manitoba)
Randy has transformed Squash Manitoba’s officiating program, building a pathway for officials to develop and progress within the province. After becoming a Local Official, he went on to become a Provincial Assessor and now mentors and certifies new officials, helping create a stronger and more sustainable officiating community.
- Ken Goggin (New Brunswick)
Ken has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to junior development, continuing to coach junior athletes after his club lost one of its two courts. With only a single court available, Ken’s dedication, perseverance and creativity ensured juniors continued to receive quality instruction and opportunities to grow.
- Leah Boody (Nova Scotia)
Leah has dedicated years of service to strengthening squash in Nova Scotia, including six years on the Squash Nova Scotia Board and as President. Her leadership has supported athletes, clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers while her financial expertise has helped strengthen the organization’s long-term sustainability.
- Tom Scholberg (Ontario)
Tom has been a dedicated advocate for squash in the Ottawa region, consistently volunteering his time to support the local community and Squash Ontario. Most recently, he served as a Conflict Resolution Officer, helping address complaints and support a positive environment within the sport.
- Samantha Lawther (Prince Edward Island)
Samantha is helping shape the next generation of squash players in Prince Edward Island as a coach, mentor and advocate. She creates a welcoming environment for young athletes, encourages more women and girls to discover squash and continues to give back to the sport while competing across the Maritimes.
- Murtaza Albiz (Quebec)
Murtaza has strengthened youth development and grassroots squash in Québec by establishing a junior development program at Club Sportif CDL. His two 10-week programs grew from 14 to 18 participants, while his use of the CANSquash curriculum and mentorship of new coaches helped build a stronger foundation for future programming.
- Grayson Peters (Yukon)
Grayson has been a lifelong supporter of squash in Yukon, first as a junior player and now as a volunteer, sponsor and ambassador. Through Yukon Tree Services, he has provided longstanding sponsorship support while continuing to lend his time to tournaments, junior programs and club activities.
