World-class squash returns to Calgary with the 2024 Canadian Men’s Open presented by AirSprint Private Aviation. Running from March 3-7, the tournament will be played on the spectacular all-glass Power Court presented by the Syra Group in Bow Valley Square for the third consecutive year and for the first time features an increased prize purse of over $100,000.
The PSA World Tour Silver event has attracted six players ranked inside the top 20, including top seed Diego Elias who is currently ranked #2 in the world. Elias, from Peru, is expected to meet second seed Mazen Hesham of Egypt in the final. Standing in their way will be Marwan Elshorbagy, Yousef Soliman, and several other world-class players. In total, 17 countries will be represented.
Canadian #1 David Baillargeon of Montreal, currently sitting at a career-high world ranking of #40, will lead domestic interest. The 27-year-old was a finalist in 2022 and always enjoys a boost from the home crowd, saying: “The support I get from the Calgary fans helps me perform my best, and I can’t wait to compete on home soil!” Four other Canadians will compete for the single Wildcard spot available. Connor Turk, Liam Marrison, Brett Schille, and Sam Boulanger will play off on February 2nd and 3rd at the Bow Valley Club to earn their place in Canada’s largest squash tournament.
Tournament Co-Chairs Dean Brown and Darren Thompson will once again open the world class hospitality and atmosphere of the Bow Valley Athletic Club as the host venue. “The BVAC is thrilled to welcome the world’s best squash players once again to Calgary.
