Battle of the Border Recap

    Niagara (ON) – The Battle of the Border took place this weekend at The Club at White Oaks, featuring 48 male and female junior squash players from Canada and the USA. The weekend tournament saw the two countries battle in Boys and Girls U13, U15 and U17 for squash supremacy.

    Niagara (ON) – The Battle of the Border took place this weekend at The Club at White Oaks, featuring 48 male and female junior squash players from Canada and the USA. The weekend tournament saw the two countries battle in Boys and Girls U13, U15 and U17 for squash supremacy.

    “The 2015 Battle of the Border has commenced at White Oaks Resort and Spa in Niagara. This is the eleventh edition of the annual cross-border challenge but the first time in its history that the team north of the border will be represented by all of Canada and not just Ontario. The Battle of the Border teams are comprised of the top 4 players from each country in the boys and girls under 13, 15, and 17. The weekend is filled with training, friendly competition and team building, trips around Niagara, and of course the Sunday morning battle in which the 24 athletes from each team will be fighting to earn a match for their country.

    BU13–Dylan Deverill, Liam Jinks, Antonio Mendes, Mo Kamal

    GU15–Emma Jinks, Bethany, Churchill, Charlotte Orcutt, Lindsay Kuracina

    BU15–George Crowne, Abdelerahman Dweek, Liam Marrison, Elliot Hunt

    GU17– Nicole Karaoke Kendall, Hannah Blatt, Amy Commisso, Reah Dhar

    BU17–Connor Jinks, Noel Heaton, Husam Hamour, Ravi Seth

    Coaches: Marci Sier, Michaela Seth, Maia Kirk, Jamie Hickox, John Power, Chris Sachvie, & Matt Serediak. 

     

    Day 1-Friday started with a meet & greet by both teams, games of Offence/Defense, Reverse Test matches 1 vs 2 & 3 vs 4) and Team Squad Training in the afternoon. To end the day we boarded buses to Queenston Heights Park to play tennis, bocce ball, football &  frisbee, a fun time was had by all.

    Day 2-Saturday started with 2 hours of on court Team Training by both countries afternoon session followed with Round Robin Play. Anticipating Sunday's matches, the coaches observed that this year's Battle will be a close one.”

    And close they were! In a thrilling Sunday, the USA would come out on top 15-9! Thank you to all the players, coaches and everyone involved from both countries for a great tournament. Until next year!
