Canadian Women Rise Up to Hit the World Stage

    It’s been quite the past 24 months for Canadian women on the international squash stage.  Three medals (2 silver, 1 bronze) at the 2015 Pan Am Games, two women cracking the top-60 ranking on the PSA world tour, and a continued climb in team finishes at Women’s World Team Championships, most recently finishing 11th in the 2014 event.

    It’s been quite the past 24 months for Canadian women on the international squash stage.  Three medals (2 silver, 1 bronze) at the 2015 Pan Am Games, two women cracking the top-60 ranking on the PSA world tour, and a continued climb in team finishes at Women’s World Team Championships, most recently finishing 11th in the 2014 event.  
     
    The rising women of Canadian squash have been all business as of late – climbing a collective 194 spots in the PSA rankings, winning medals at a major international competition and rising in the world team rankings for the third consecutive time.  Now, five of them have converged on the courts of the Windsor Squash Club to earn their spot on the 2016 Team Canada.
     
    Nicole Bunyan (Victoria, BC), Samantha Cornett (Deep River/Toronto, ON), Danielle Letourneau (Calgary, AB), Jackie Moss (Calgary, AB), and Micaala Seth (Fergus, ON) will face-off in a round robin format with the top two earning their spot to compete in Paris, France at the 2016 WSF Women’s World Team Championships.  
     
    Reigning Canadian champion Hollie Naughton of Mississauga, ON, and Nikki Todd of Regina, SK have both secured their spots on the team based on their rankings on the Professional Squash Association World Tour, in accordance with Squash Canada's Senior national world team championship selection criteria.
     
    The Women’s World Team selection trials began Monday September 26 and will continue through to Thursday September 29.
