SQUASH CANADA CANCELS REMAINING RE-SCHEDULED 2020 CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, POSTPONES CANADIAN JUNIOR OPEN

Ottawa, ON (September 4, 2020) — Squash Canada regrettably announces the decision to cancel the 2020 Canadian Squash Championships, Canadian U23 Championships and Canadian Doubles Championships.  In the hopes that these Spring events could be held, they were re-scheduled to November.  However, a risk assessment of ongoing COVID-19 implications has now resulted in cancellations.

At the same time, Squash Canada has decided that it would not be prudent to run the 2020 Canadian Junior Open on December 12-15, an international event that typically draws 100+ players from around the globe.  The event has been postponed to a suitable date in early Summer of 2021, at The Club at White Oaks in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.  The dates are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

“The safety of our players, coaches, officials, parents, volunteers, and staff, as well as the welfare of host clubs, remains of utmost priority to Squash Canada,” says Executive Director, Dan Wolfenden. “We share the disappointment of our players, coaches, officials and host clubs.  We continue to work diligently on return to national competition plans.

Squash Canada is in the process of firming up plans for the schedule of 2021 Championships.
