Team Canada Named for 2022 Women’s World Team Championships in Cairo, Egypt

Squash Canada is thrilled to announce the athletes who will represent Canada in the 2022 Women’s World Team Championships in Cairo, Egypt, taking place December 10-16, 2022.

Team Canada will be represented by:

  • Hollie Naughton (ON)
  • Nicole Bunyan (BC)
  • Nikki Todd (SK)
  • Samantha Cornett (ON)
  • Hannah Blatt (MB) is the non-travelling reserve for the team

** Note: Danielle Letourneau (AB) was initially selected but has been forced to withdraw due to her knee injury that was sustained during the Canadian Squash Championships in June 2022.

Veteran National team member Hollie Naughton (Canadian #1, and World #17) had this to say about the upcoming event: “Can’t wait to play World Teams after an extended break from the event (due to covid). It’s always a fun and tough event and brings the whole team together. Excited to be back with the Team Canada ladies and get out there and do our best.”

Nicole Bunyan (World #44) looks forward to competing for Canada at her first Women’s World Team Championships, after her debut at the Commonwealth Games in August. “I’m looking forward to representing Canada in my first Women’s World Teams! It’ll be different than the Commonwealth Games because it’s a team event, but personally, I think that’ll bring out my best squash, since I’ve always thrived and played well in a team environment!” says Bunyan (World #44). In addition,  both Nikki Todd and Samantha Cornett are well-seasoned World Teams players and will bring their experience with them to Cairo.

The team will be coached by former World #12, Victoria Lust (BC). “It will be a different challenge being on the other side of the court at a World Team Championship but one I am thoroughly looking forward to. The Canadian women have been in great form leading up to the event and I’m excited to get started. The squad has a lot of experience playing at events like these and are looking to, as always, put in a strong performance throughout the week,” says Lust.

Coach Lust and the team will be joined by the experienced Dr. Tim Marshall who has been to many international events supporting Squash Canada’s players.

The competition will take place at Cairo’s Madinaty Sports Club and the title will be contested by 17 nations. More information can be found here.
