Tournament Policies Matrix – training and education requirements for Squash Canada sanctioned events

As with the entire Canadian sport system, the Safe Sport movement continues to evolve and adapt to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for anyone that wishes to enjoy amateur sport activities.

Squash Canada is committed to reviewing and enhancing our programs and policies to help ensure that squash is the number one sport choice for Canadians. The organization is moving towards a ‘Sport Safety’ approach, which encompasses many different areas such as safe sport (i.e., to prevent maltreatment), concussion awareness, competition manipulation, IDEA (inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible), education on the rules of squash, certified coaches and more.

With that said, Squash Canada is pleased to announce the new Tournament Policies Matrix that outlines training and education requirements for Athletes, Coaches, Parents/Guardians, and Event Volunteers for participation in Squash Canada sanctioned events.

“Squash has an incredibly rich history in Canada and around the world. With the ever-changing sport safety environment, Squash Canada is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for those that wish to be involved in the sport,” said Geoffrey Johnson, COO of Squash Canada. “The Tournament Policies Matrix will become the first line of offence for Squash Canada to help educate the Canadian squash community on important topics such as safe sport, competition manipulation, concussions, and the rules of squash.”

The Tournament Policies Matrix outlines mandatory or strongly recommended requirements for Athletes, Coaches, Parents/Guardians, and Event Volunteers to complete prior to attending Squash Canada sanctioned events.

What happens next? Squash Canada will send direct communications to Athletes, Coaches, Parents/Guardians, and Event Volunteers going forward to ensure any requirements are met prior to an event. If you plan to participate in an event, we encourage you to be proactive by completing outlined requirements well in advance and to send an email to info@squash.ca upon completion of outlined requirements.
