2025 Arjun Gupta Bursary for International Excellence

The Arjun Gupta Foundation and Squash Canada are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Bursary for International Excellence. This bursary, established in honour of the late Arjun Gupta—a beloved member of the squash community and Team Canada —aims to financially support young, aspiring Canadian athletes representing Canada internationally through the remainder of 2025.

The Arjun Gupta Foundation officially launched in October 2024 during the Canadian Women’s Open on the Jonathon Power Court—one of Arjun’s coaches—with a gala event and exhibition match featuring longtime teammate Nick Sachvie and World Champion David Palmer and, Arjun’s former coach at Cornell. The foundation’s mission is to fulfill Arjun’s wishes of providing opportunities for individuals to grow athletically, academically, and professionally. To learn more about the foundation and Arjun’s tremendous impact on Canadian Squash please visit the foundation website (Click Here for Website).

The Bursary for International Excellence will award one female and one male athlete $2,500 each. Eligible athletes must be on the Canadian National Junior Squad or show potential to be named in the future. Applications are open as of April 10th, close on May 10th, and be awarded on or before May 25th. Selection will consider playing level, professionalism of training and support team, future aspirations, and financial need. Of the total, $2,000 will support coaching, training, competition, and related expenses, with $500 directed to the athlete’s designated National Training Centre’s regular activities.

“Squash Canada is proud to honour the memory and legacy of Arjun Gupta. This bursary will ensure that he and his cohort’s quest for excellence on and off the court will inspire and support the next generation of Canadian squash players. We thank the Arjun Gupta Foundation and the Gupta family for this important contribution to the future of our sport as we realize our Olympic dream,” says Squash Canada CEO, Jamie Nicholls.
