Mandatory Coach Certification & Registration – Effective September 1, 2026

Squash Canada confirms that the Mandatory Coach Certification Policy, approved by the board of Directors on February 4, 2026, will come into effect on September 1, 2026. This policy supports Squash Canada’s commitment to safe, inclusive, and high-quality coaching environments while recognizing diverse coaching pathways, including domestic and international certification systems. 

As of September 1, 2026, all coaches wishing to access the Field of Play at Squash Canada-sanctioned events must register for specified tournament and meet the outlined coaching certification, Safe Sport, and screening requirements. Note – this only applies to junior tournaments at this time.  

Tournaments affected in the 2026/2027 season include the Canadian Junior Open (December 12-15, 2026) and Canadian Junior Squash Championships (April 2027) and may include National Juniors Circuit Platinum and Gold events. 

This policy applies to individuals designated as a Coach by an athlete who wish to access the Field of Play during competition at Squash Canada-sanctioned events. 

It does not apply to:  

  • Parents, guardians, or siblings coaching their own family member 
  • Fellow athletes providing informal support 

**Please note that some Safe Sport requirements may still apply in accordance with tournament policies.

All coaches must register for each event and meet stated deadlines. Failure to comply may result in removal from the Field of Play and/or disciplinary action.  

Compliance Platform – Coming Soon 

Squash Canada is currently working to implement a centralized compliance system that will allow coaches to upload and manage all required documentation.

These requirements will be communicated in advance of registration deadlines. 

Key Dates 

April 25-28, 2026 – Registration requested (not mandatory) for Canadian Junior National Championships (Vancouver, BC) to support smooth and effective rollout ahead of the 2026-2027 season. This is not required for the Senior portion of the event.  

December 12-15, 2026 – Registration required for Canadian Junior Open (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 

  1. Do I need to register for every tournament? 

Yes, coaches must register for each Squash Canada–sanctioned event they wish to access the field of play. 

  1. What happens if I do not register? 

You will not be permitted access to the Field of Play. Re-entry will only be permitted once compliance is confirmed. 

  1. I have already completed Safe Sport Training. Do I need to do it again? 

No, provided your training is current and meets Squash Canada requirements. You may be asked to provide proof of completion. 

  1. Is The Canadian Safe Sport Program’s (CSSP) Safe Sport education Mandatory for all coaches? 

CAC Safe Sport and MED are mandatory for all coaches.  

CSSP Safe Sport is required only for certain appointed or higher-performance roles, as outlined in selection documents or hiring processes. 

  1. I am certified outside Canada. Will my certification be accepted? 

England Squash and U.S. Squash certifications are automatically accepted if valid and current.  

Other international certifications may be submitted for review.

  1. Do Parents need to register? 

No. Parents/guardians supporting their own child do not fall under this policy. 

  1. What screening is required? 

Coaches must comply with the Squash Canada Screening Policy. If you have completed screening elsewhere, you may submit proof for review. 

  1. When will the compliance system launch? 

Prior to September 1, 2026. A formal announcement will be made once it is live.  

  1. How do I get a background check? 

Please submit a request to info@squash.ca and we will assist you in obtaining one.
