Canada to face USA in round of 16 at world team squash championships

    PADERBORN, Germany – Canada defeated Namibia 3-0 on Tuesday to finish in first place in its pool with a perfect 3-0 record and will face its arch-rivals the U.S., in the round of 16 on Wednesday at the men’s world team squash championships.

    Against Namibia, Andrew McDougall and Andrew Schnell, both of Calgary, won the first two matches in straight games while Shawn DeLierre of Brossard, Que., needed five to win the third match.

    Canada, seeded seventh, was already assured a berth in the round of 16 after its victory on Monday against Mexico.  The Mexicans took the second and last playoff spot in the pool defeating Scotland 2-1.

    The Americans, seeded eighth, lost their third round match 3-0 to Italy to finish second in their pool at 2-1.

    The other round of 16 match-ups are England (top seed) vs Hong Kong; Egypt (2) vs Germany (16); France (3) vs Finland (13); Australia (4) vs Netherlands (14); Malaysia (5) vs South Africa (11); India (6) vs Denmark; and Italy (9) vs Mexico (10).
