Canadians In Action on the PSA World Tour

    It’s been a good start to the week for Canadian squash players on the PSA World Tour.
     
    Three (3) members of Team Canada for the 2016 WSF Women's World Team Championship have advanced to the quarter-finals of the SLAIGHT MUSIC GRANITE OPEN (OCTOBER) 2016 taking place at the Granite Club in Toronto, ON.

    Three (3) members of Team Canada for the 2016 WSF Women's World Team Championship have advanced to the quarter-finals of the SLAIGHT MUSIC GRANITE OPEN (OCTOBER) 2016 taking place at the Granite Club in Toronto, ON.  
     
    Samantha Cornett, Hollie Naughton and Nikki Todd each won their opening round of the tournament and move on to the quarter-finals later today (Oct. 26, 2016)
     
    QF Matches set for today (Wed. Oct. 26) 
    Sam Cornett will face Maria Toorpakai Wazir (PAK) @ 18:30 EST
    Nikki Todd (7) will face Nada Abbas (EGY) @ 19:30 EST
    Hollie Naughton (5) takes on Samantha Teran (3) (MEX) @ 20:15 EST

    On the men's side, lone Canadian, Shawn De Lierre, entered the Qualifying Round of the Wadi Degla 2016 PSA Men’s World Championships (being held in Cairo, Egypt) seeded 11th.  The qualifying round opened Tuesday (October 25), where De Lierre faced Ahmed Hussein of Egypt.  Winning the match 3-2 (12-10, 5-11,11-8, 5-11, 6-11), he moved on to the finals of the qualifying round bright and early this morning (2pm local time).
     
    In that match, Shawn took on Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong. Winning 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6), Shawn now moves onto the main draw.
     
    De Lierre, a HP Squad Member of Squash Canada’s National Team Program, qualified for the main round of the 2015 PSA Men’s World Championship after winning his qualifying matches against Babatunde Ajagbe (3-0) and Shehab Essam (3-1).  Facing world-ranked #20 Mohamed Abouelghar of Egypt in the first round of the 2015 championship, De Lierre battled hard but ultimately lost the match 1-3, ending his run for the 2015 title.
     
    The time and opponent for his first match of the main round has not been confirmed but is set to take place Thursday October 27.
