OTTAWA, ON, April 3, 2019 – 282 doubles squash players from across Canada will converge on Toronto this weekend (April 4-7) with their sights set on capturing a national doubles title.  The 2019 Canadian Doubles Squash Championships presented by Slaight Music will be hosted by the Granite Club.

With 141 teams competing in 17 different categories the competition is sure to be fierce on the court and very social off the court.  With over 200+ matches taking place throughout the weekend, the Granite Club will also employ the use of additional doubles courts at the Toronto Cricket, Skating & Curling, Badminton & Racquet Club, Mayfair Parkway, Mayfair Lakeshore, Royal Canadian Yacht Club, The Cambridge Club, and Toronto Racquet Club.

The 2019 edition features a strong roster of former National Champions in all categories looking to defend their titles and/or re-capture past glory.  The highlight of the weekend will be the elite level Open categories where 10 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams vie for not only the National Championship but $5000 in prize money split equally between categories.  On the men’s side, number one seeds Robin Clarke and Scott Arnold are considered heavy favourites as they look to regain the title after winning four straight years from 2014 to 2017.  They will certainly be challenged by the rest of the field including a strong number two seeded team of Colin West and Adam Bews.  On the women’s side, number one seeds Stephanie Hewitt and Dana Betts will have their work cut out for them with a strong contingent of players highlighted by number two seeds Seanna Keating and Canada’s top ranked PSA player Sam Cornett.

“It is fantastic to see one of the largest turnouts ever for a Canadian Doubles Championship, with eight different clubs in the Toronto area opening up their courts for the benefit of the 282 championship doubles players”, said Dan Wolfenden, Squash Canada Executive Director.  “The joy and camaraderie that will be shown are the hallmark of the doubles community.  Congratulations to Annette White, her capable team, and the Granite Club for organizing this major event.”
