The day began at 10:00am, with the Canadian Men’s team taking on Ecuador in their opening encounter. Canada never lost a game, as Delierre and the Schnell brothers won their matches 3-0.

The women’s team repeated what the men did, winning their battle against Argentina 3-0 without Cornett, Todd or Naughton losing a game.

At 5:30pm, the Canadian men had a grudge to settle, battling the Colombian team that beat them in the Singles and Doubles events. The first rematch of the night was Shawn Delierre versus Miguel Rodriguez. The world #4 ousted Delierre in the Singles Semifinals 3-0. Delierre, set to redeem himself, won the first game 13-11 in an intense duel that remained the whole match. The game stretched to the fifth set, where Rodriguez went on to win 11-4, giving his team one match win. The Canadians could not afford to lose another match. The Schnell brothers played their Colombian counterparts who had just beat them the night before in the Doubles Finals. Graeme Schnell played against Juan Vargas in another thrilling five game match, with Graeme coming out on top 3-2 (11-13,11-7,11-8,9-11,11-4). With momentum in Canada’s favour, Andrew Schnell sealed the victory with a convincing 3-0 (11-2,11-7,11-4) win. This win gave them a birth into the Semifinals. Great job boys!

In the women’s other match of the day, Canada went up against Brazil. The Brazilians, who sat at 0-2 in the team event after losses to Argentina and Colombia, could not keep up with the Canadians. Sam Cornett won her match 3-0, allowing only 7 points over the course of three games. Nikki Todd only allowed 8 points in her decisive 3-0 win. In the third game, Brazilian Tatiana Damasio put up a fight against Hollie Naughton, taking the second game off the Canadian 11-7. Naughton won the rest of the games to take the match 3-1. This win vaulted Canada into first in their Pool, solidifying a trip to the Semifinal. Way to go girls!

The Semifinals take place tonight, as the women get set to take on Mexico at 5:30pm, while the men play at 7:45pm against the winner of the Argentina/Guatemala Quarterfinal.
