Rising Canadian Talent Hit the Courts This Weekend

A ‘first-ever’ event is happening in the heart of Toronto this weekend as Squash Canada officially launches the Canadian U23 Squash Championships.  Once held as a division at the Canadian Squash Championships, 2018 marks the first time in Canadian squash history that the Under-23 division will run as its own full national championship event.  Developed to fill an identified gap within the Canadian squash player’s pathway, the U23 Squash Championships will serve as a competitive opportunity for Canadian athletes looking to take the next step in their competitive squash careers – some aiming to compete on the Professional world tour.
Starting today, 33 of Canada’s top rising athletes will hit the courts at the Mayfair Clubs Lakeshore squash courts with their sights set on capturing this monumental national title.  As one of the premier fitness and racquet facilities in Canada and with its rich history in hosting world-class squash events, the Mayfair Lakeshore is the ideal location for this inaugural Squash Canada event.
From June 1-3 squash enthusiasts, family, friends and supporters are encouraged to head down to Lakeshore for their opportunity to witness some incredible squash.  The event will feature some of Canada’s rising stars, like High Performance squad athlete and World #98 David Baillargeon, recently appointed Youth Olympic Games squash ambassador, James Flynn, Canada’s #1 U19 woman Emma Jinks and former Junior Women’s World Team member Grace Thomas, to name a few.
Matches will be free for spectators all weekend so make your way to Mayfair Clubs Lakeshore to take in some top calibre squash. However, if you aren’t in the Toronto area, courts 1 & 2 will be streamed live all weekend long.  From the first matches on Friday until the finals on Sunday, each match is sure to be exciting; and you won’t want to miss Super Sunday – the Men and Women’s Finals with special guest commentators Martin Heath, former World #4 and Squash Canada’s new High Performance Director, and Ontario’s ‘Super Coach’ Greg Hutner, as they reveal insight you’ve never heard before!!
