OTTAWA (ON) – Squash Canada and the World Squash Federation promoted the sport of squash to International Olympic Committee (IOC) delegates as part of the Sport Accord Convention in Quebec City.  Squash Canada unveiled its “Go Squash” Inflatable Court as part of the demonstration.  Also attending were, World #2 and reigning World Champion Nick Matthew of England and World #67 Maria Toor Pakay of Pakistan.

“It was great having Nick Matthew and Maria Toor Pakay in Quebec City promoting the sport of squash to all the IOC and conference delegates.  The delegates and the children who participated were thrilled to meet Nick and Maria and experience the game of squash”, said Danny Da Costa, Executive Director of Squash Canada.

The inflatable squash court provides a visual representation for the game of squash.  The courts one of only 50 in the world and one of only 3 in North America inflate in less than 2 minutes and provides instant awareness, promotion for the sport of squash and excitement to those participating.  Squash Canada and Squash Ontario recently purchased two courts for promotional use.   Da Costa said, we plan to make the court available to clubs and provinces to use for promoting squash events, schools programs and during tradeshows.

Squash Canada Executive Director, Danny Da Costa commented, that “squash has tremendous momentum in its bid for sport inclusion for the 2020 Olympic Games.  With all the advancements the sport has made over the past few years they are well positioned to be chosen ”.   World Squash Federation has contracted leading Olympic bid agency Vero Communications to lead its bid for the 2020 Olympics.  Vero has been a highly successful bid agency recently been awarded the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2018 Korea Winter Olympics and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.  They were also the agency of record to get Rugby into the 2016 Olympic Games.
