Canadian Juniors Participating in the 2019 US Junior Open Squash Championships

Ottawa, ON (December 12, 2019) — The 2019 US Junior Open Squash Championships are now less than a week away, where Canada’s best young squash players will face opponents from every corner of the globe, in Boston, Massachusetts from December 14th to 17th. Due to the large scale of the event, with over 700 participants, there are several venues, including the prestigious Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Badger Rosen SquashBusters Center, and the Phillips Academy Andover.

The tournament is divided into 10 categories — Boys Under-19, Boys Under-17, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-13, Boys Under-11, Girls Under-19, Girls Under-17, Girls Under-15, Girls Under-13, and Girls Under-11.  Approximately 75 juniors from across Canada will compete in all of the age categories in the 2019 US Junior Open, with hopes of reaching the podium.

Molly Chadwick, who will be competing in Girls U17, is a two-time Canadian Champion and recently won the Girls U17 title at the 2019 Canadian Junior Open. She was also member of Team Canada at the 2019 Pan American Junior Squash Championships, winning Gold alongside her teammates.

Iman Shaheen, playing in the Girls U15 category, has proven to be very successful over this past year. She is ranked first in Canada for U15 and was recently crowned champion at the 2019 Canadian Junior Open, captured a bronze medal at the 2019 Canadian Junior Closed, and defeated several older opponents at the 2019 U23 Canadian Junior Squash Championships, finishing 5th.

Abdelrahman Dweek is one of Canada best junior talents, with plenty of international experience. He is ranked #1 in the nation for Boys U19, has won the Canadian Junior Open title twice, and also finished 4th at the 2017 British Junior Open, making him the first Canadian to reach the Semi-Finals since 2009. Abdelrahman finished fourth at the 2018 US Junior Open and will be looking to build upon that success at the upcoming event.

Other notables include Nikhil Ismail and Maaz Mufti in Boys U19, Amin Khan in Boys U17, and Alessia Ferris and Sara Khan in Girls U19.  For a complete list of all players competing including Canadians, please click here.
