CANADIAN SQUASH LEADERS GATHER VIRTUALLY FOR 2020 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

OTTAWA, ON (June 22, 2020) – The leaders of the Canadian squash community gathered June 19-20 for the 2020 Squash Canada Annual General Meeting. Unlike normal times where delegates from Provincial/Territorial partners would travel to meet in-person, for the first time ever the meeting was held virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The delegates began this annual gathering by attending several informational sessions by sport industry leaders to help shape future discussions on how squash in Canada can continue to grow and be a leader worldwide.  Presentations included ‘System Alignment’ by Curling Canada’s CEO Katherine Henderson, ‘Sport Organization Management for a post COVID-19 Recovery’ by Steve Indig of Sport Law and Strategy Group and finally ‘Growing the Business of Squash’ by Kevin Klipstein, President and CEO of US Squash.  These high-level topics were very well received by the delegates and tied in nicely to the final workshop presented by Squash Canada Executive Director Dan Wolfenden related to ‘Strategic Planning for the next Quadrennial’.

In addition, our Provincial/Territorial partners along with the Athlete Representatives (Danielle Letourneau and Shawn Delierre) took part in the formal Annual General Meeting. This legally required meeting allows our membership to gather to discuss and approve several formal motions such as annual financial reports, appointment of auditors, elections to the Board and more.  The key highlight from this portion of the weekend was the re-election of Shaun Thorson as Vice President, Finance, and election of Lisa Henderson as a Director-at-Large.
