The 2022 Canadian Squash Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

The 2022 Canadian Squash Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place on Saturday June 4th at iconic Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver, British Columbia during the Men’s and Women’s Open Semi-final matches of the 2022 Oxford Properties Canadian Squash Championships. The 2022 Inductees (Barbara Cooper, Shahier Razik, Melanie Jans, Michael Desaulniers and Mike Way) took their rightful place in the Canadian Squash Hall of Fame for their roles as players and builders of the sport of squash.

For those of you who were unable to join us in-person and/or watch the CBC GEM live stream, please find below the links to the YouTube videos of our five exceptional and most-deserving Inductees that were enshrined in front of an enthusiastic crowd surrounded by the all-glass Power Court. With very deep ties to the Vancouver squash community, the adoring crowd lapped up the live acceptance speeches from native Michael Desaulniers and former Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club Head Professional Melanie Jans. In addition, the crowd enjoyed pre-recorded acceptance speeches from Barbara Cooper, Shahier Razik and Mike Way, who were unable to attend the ceremony.

The Induction Ceremony also saw three previous Hall of Fame inductees in attendance – Jonathon Power, Heather Wallace and Yvon Provencal (who was also coaching both David Baillargeon and Shawn Delierre during their respective Semi-final matches in the Men’s Open).

With thanks to our Master of Ceremonies Steve Wren, Chair of the Canadian Squash Hall of Fame (and who earlier in the day captured the 2022 Canadian Men’s 55+ National title), Squash Canada, Encore, and CBC GEM for giving the Canadian Squash Hall of Fame the incredible opportunity to showcase our legends of the game during this prestigious Canadian Squash Championship in a first time ever world class iconic venue.
