Squash Canada announces hosts for five National Championships in 2022/2023

Squash Canada is thrilled to announce dates and locations for five Canadian Championships as part of the 2022/2023 season. This season marks the first time since 2018/2019 that a full schedule of events will be held. The National Championships are the highlight of the squash season for competitive players who dream of being crowned a Canadian Squash Champion.

“A celebration of national level squash and camaraderie will be back on in full effect in the Fall and Winter of 2022-23”, stated Dan Wolfenden, Executive Director of Squash Canada.  “We are especially pleased to bring events to parts of the country where it has been some time since we have gathered as the Canadian squash community. PEI, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and their host clubs, will no doubt extend their renowned brand of hospitality for the enjoyment of all.”

Canadian Men’s and Women’s Team Championships – January 20-22, 2023
Regina Squash Centre – Regina, Saskatchewan

Regina Squash Centre is Canada’s newest dedicated squash facility, with three brand new international squash courts, a full-time head teaching pro and a dedicated pro-shop with squash equipment and racquet stringing. The event will be supported by Evolution Fitness as a satellite club. “Our volunteers are enthusiastic and committed to showcasing our Club, our City and our Province for our squash friends from across the Nation”, exclaimed Thomas King, Tournament Chair. “The Canadian Men’s and Women’s Team Championships has a tradition of great squash and great fun. Our staff, our volunteers and our club members are keen to maintain that tradition as we host all teams from across Canada at this prestigious national championship. We look forward to seeing you all in the Queen City.”

Canadian Masters Team Championships – January 27-29, 2023
Eastlink Centre – Charlottetown, PEI

Squash Canada will host the 2023 Canadian Masters Teams Championships in Prince Edward Island, which will be the test event for the 2023 Canada Winter Games that will follow just a few weeks later from February 18-25. This annual event features Provincial/Territorial teams of seven players (three women and four men) and they will have an opportunity to compete on four brand new courts being erected for the Games at the Eastlink Centre.

Canadian University and College Championships – March 10-12, 2023
Glendon Campus, York University – Toronto, ON

Squash Canada will host the 2023 Canadian University and College Championships at Glendon College, which is part of York University. The event is the premier competitive squash opportunity for university and college student athletes from all provinces and territories. It recognizes the best players in Canada in all categories (Men’s and Women’s Open, A and B).

Canadian Junior Closed Championships – May 6-9, 2023
Canadian Squash Championships – May 10-14, 2023
Atwater Club and Montreal Forum – Montreal, Quebec

Over 600 players young and mature are expected to descend on Montreal for these two championships, held back-to-back over 9 days, and featuring The Power Glass Court in the iconic Montreal Forum.

“On behalf of Squash Quebec, Club Atwater and the local squash community, we are thrilled to be hosting the prestigious Junior and Senior Nationals in Montréal,” said David Phillips, Tournament Chair. “I am particularly honoured to be given the opportunity to Co-chair with my long-time friend, mentor and Squash Canada Hall-of-Famer Yvon Provencal. Having been a competitor at Nationals personally over the past 30 years, I am looking forward to being on the organizing side of the event and delivering a memorable experience for squash players new and old. Squash Canada is currently finalizing event details for the 2023 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships and 2023 Canadian Doubles Championships and will release those details in the coming weeks.

Excitement is also brewing as plans for the 2023 edition of the Canadian Open are in negotiations. The event was resurrected in Calgary in April of this year with great fanfare after a 20 year hiatus.

A reminder to register for the 2022 Canadian Junior Open to be held December 10-13 at The Club at White in Niagara-on-the-Lake. In the first two weeks of registration, 214 players have already entered the event, including 20 young athletes from New Zealand alone.  For information and to register – Click Here
