Canadian Masters Teams Championship to be played in Charlottetown, PEI

From January 27th – 29th, Charlottetown, PEI will host the 2023 Canadian Masters Teams Championship presented by Vogue Optical at the Eastlink Centre. The Championship will serve as the test-event for the upcoming 2023 Canada Winter Games taking place in February.

Teams for the Canadian Masters Teams Championship are comprised of seven players, four male, three female, in age categories 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ and 40+, 45+, 50+ respectively. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Masters Teams event will return in full swing and see seven teams from across Canada compete, where a new Champion will be crowned in what is sure to be a thrilling weekend of squash.

“We are very proud to have the opportunity to host this national event. Squash PEI is looking forward to hosting the Masters event on four brand new courts, recently installed in preparation for the Canada Games. From the food selection for the banquet to the tournament souvenirs, everything has been planned to showcase our famous PEI hospitality. We feel honoured to welcome the greater Canadian squash community to Charlottetown.” – Squash PEI

“There’s no question the Masters squash community in Canada has been impacted by Covid and various disruptions over the past three years. However, we now have an outstanding opportunity to get the Masters Teams event back under way again in beautiful Charlottetown, on PEI’s and possibly Canada’s newest 4-court construction, as PEI prepares for the Canada Winter Games. The Masters Teams Championship is a unique event in Squash Canada’s calendar of National Championships, bringing together friends in squash from across the country who have competed at Provincial and National level, in some cases for decades! And while on court the event delivers highly competitive squash and exciting matchups; it’s the close camaraderie that ultimately prevails when the National Champion Team (and winner of “The Neddy”) is celebrated for another year.” – Steve Wren, past president of Squash Canada and annual Masters Teams participant

The Canadian Masters Teams Championship could not be made possible without presenting sponsor Vogue Optical as well as Friends of the Championship sponsors PEI Property Brothers (Tayler and Landan Weeks), Bogside Brewing, The Gallery, and Atlantic Mustard Mill. In addition, Squash Canada would like to acknowledge our funding partners the Government of Canada, the Government of PEI, the City of Charlottetown, the 2023 Canada Winter Games Host Society, Dunlop, Sport PEI, and Squash PEI.
