Canadian Junior Athletes Set to Compete in 17th Annual Battle of the Border

In a few weeks, Squash Canada’s talented junior athletes will head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to compete in the 17th annual Battle of the Border against the Team USA contingent. The event will be held from August 3rd to 6th at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.  

The Battle of the Border, created in 2004, has since created amazing opportunities for Canadian and American Junior players to compete internationally and gain experience in representing their country. The Battle consists of groups of eight athletes, four boys and four girls, in each of the U17, U15 and U13 categories.  

“Team Canada plans to be a force to be reckoned with! This event is such a wonderful opportunity for these young athletes to play, have fun, and put their best foot forward against some top athletes,” said Girls U15 coach Janet MacLeod. “I know our athletes will represent Canada proudly and enjoy this unique experience!” 

Graeme Williams, Boys U17 coach, shared: “I am honoured and excited to represent Canada again as a coach at the upcoming Battle of the Border in Philadelphia.  Every time I am able to coach under the Canadian flag and work with the next generation of Canadian talent, I am extremely proud. Team events always bring the best out of Canadians and I am sure this event in Philadelphia will be no different. I look forward to watching our Juniors compete and hope we can put in some consistently strong performances over the weekend!” 

Our Canadian contingent will face tough competition against Team USA, looking to recapture the Battle of the Border title for the first time since 2016. We can’t wait to cheer on our Junior athletes in Philadelphia!
