Squash Canada and World Squash are pleased to share that Chris Truswell, currently Director of Events at Squash Canada, has been hired as the Squash Sport Manager for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28).
This role will see Truswell lead the planning and operational delivery of squash’s historic Olympic debut at LA28. He will collaborate closely with international and national governing bodies, venue and operation teams, and LA28’s broader Games management to help deliver a memorable first appearance for the sport.
A former professional player on the PSA Squash Tour, Truswell reached a career-high world ranking of No. 116 before he transitioned to sport administration with England Squash and the Professional Squash Association (PSA).
He went on to serve as Squash Tournament Director for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham then joined Squash Ontario as Competitions Manager and later Squash Canada as Director of Events.
“Chris has been an exceptional member of the Squash Canada Team,” said Jamie Nicholls, Squash Canada CEO.
“His professionalism, along with his unique knowledge and experience, has left a lasting mark on our organization, and while we’re sad to see him go, we’re incredibly proud to see him take on such an important role in squash’s Olympic journey.”
World Squash President Zena Wooldridge added: “On behalf of World Squash, congratulations to Chris and the LA28 team on this critical and exciting appointment. World Squash and the PSA have had the pleasure of working with Chris on previous projects including in his role as Squash Manager for the highly successful 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and in preparations for this year’s World Squash Junior Championships in Ontario, Canada. As a former professional player, we know he will bring an athlete-focussed approach to his role.
“The LA28 Games represents a watershed moment for squash as we prepare to make our Olympic debut and we’re looking forward to working closely with Chris over the next two years to ensure that squash at LA28 is a spectacular occasion for fans and players alike.”
“While I’m sad to be leaving Squash Canada, I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and support I’ve had here,” said Truswell. “At the same time, joining LA28 to help deliver squash’s Olympic debut is an incredible opportunity, and I’m honoured to contribute to such a historic moment for our sport.”
Squash Canada and World Squash wish Chris great success in this exciting new chapter and look forward to watching him continue to make an impact as squash takes its place on the world’s biggest stage.
