Squash Canada Appoints Reiko Peter as New Director of Athlete Development

Squash Canada is pleased to announce that Reiko Peter will join Squash Canada as the new Director of Athlete Development as of May 1, 2026. Reiko, who has extensive international experience as a player and coach, will help guide Team Canada as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games cycle.

Reiko is a former professional squash player and high-performance coach. Originally from Switzerland, he competed on the PSA World Tour for over a decade, reaching a career-high world ranking of No. 66 and capturing six PSA titles. As a consistent presence at the top of Swiss squash, he was a multi-time finalist at the Swiss National Championships and represented Switzerland at numerous World and European Team Championships. His experience competing internationally has shaped a deep understanding of the demands of elite performance.

Since transitioning from professional play in 2019, Reiko has established himself as a leading coach and developer of talent. Based in Burlington, Canada, he has coached multiple Canadian Junior Champions and serves as Head of Elite Player Development at the Ontario Racquet Club, where he implemented high-performance training systems rooted in European methodology.

As Director of Athlete Development, Reiko will lead initiatives to strengthen Canada’s athlete pathways, optimize performance, and guide athletes as we approach the LA 2028 Summer Olympic Games. He will take on the position in a part-time capacity, focusing on strategic initiatives, direct athlete support, and international events, while continuing in his role as Head of Player Development at the Ontario Racquet Club.

“The future of Canadian Squash is incredibly bright. As we near our Olympic moment, I’m proud to bring my international experience to Canada and help athletes perform on the world stage. Having grown up in Switzerland and now being Canadian, I’m excited to help build a system that develops world-class athletes and elevates Canadian squash on a global level,” said Reiko.

“Squash Canada is thrilled to welcome Reiko to our athlete development team. His experience and passion will be tremendous assets to the program, and his collaborative approach will allow him to support athletes, coaches, and all stakeholders from coast to coast on our Olympic journey,” said Squash Canada CEO, Jamie Nicholls.

Reiko will be based out of Ontario, assuming the role of Director of Athlete Development beginning on May 1, 2026, and can be reached at reiko.peter@squash.ca.
