Hosting for over 10 consecutive years, The Club at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, one of the premier facilities for hosting squash events in the world, has felt like home to the competitors of the Canadian Junior Open (CJO). Today, Squash Canada announces that The Club at White Oaks, on the courts of the Mark Sachvie Squash Club, has been awarded the Canadian Junior Open through to 2020.

Hitting its peak international status last year, the 2016 CJO featured 292 top junior players which included 98 international players representing 21 different countries from five continents.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership with The Club at White Oaks,” said Squash Canada’s Executive Director, Dan Wolfenden. “The Club is an incredible venue and has a hosting excellence reputation that we are proud to be a part of.  From the 2014 Women’s World Team Championships to the CJO and the numerous local and provincial tournaments they have hosted, The Club has proven they know how to put on a first-class event.”

Each December, junior squash athletes travel from around the world to compete at the CJO, including some of Canada’s top junior players and rising stars.  In addition to the high-level of junior competition seen at the CJO, the event timing precedes the American counterpart, the US Junior Open.  This enables overseas players to benefit from two major junior events in one trip, making it a “must attend event” on many international junior players’ competition calendar.

“We are honoured that Squash Canada has entrusted us with the responsibility of hosting the Canadian Junior Open until 2020,” commented Matt Easingwood, Head Squash Professional and Tournament Director for The Club at White Oaks. “We are committed to making each year better than the last as the CJO continues to grow in popularity for international Junior squash athletes and for our homegrown Canadian talent.  We will continue to work hard each year to provide the athletes with a top-notch experience they will remember.”

The CJO is a World Squash Federation World Junior Circuit event enabling U19 players to accumulate ranking points on the global scene.  The CJO is also a registered junior event with the PSA (Professional Squash Association), enabling U19 players who are PSA members to accumulate PSA ranking points as well. Each year the competition grows stronger and the representation from international competitors increases, providing Canadian junior athletes the opportunity to compete against top talent on home soil.

Dates for the all three years have been tentatively set:
    • December 8-11, 2018
    • December 7-10, 2019
    • December 12-15, 2020
Fans and squash enthusiasts alike don’t have to wait until 2018 to see the exciting international competition, the 2017 Canadian Junior Open is set for December 9-12 at The Club at White Oaks as well.  For complete information on the Canadian Junior Open and Squash Canada’s eight different national championships, visit http://squash.ca/en/events
