Canada Wins Gold at Pan American Junior Squash Championships

    Belo Horizonte, Brazil (June 23, 2013) – The Canadian junior women’s Pan-American Team captured gold at the Pan American Junior Squash Championships in Belo-Horizonte, Brazil to conclude a very successful week for the Canadian women.  The second seeded Canadian Team won the gold medal over first seeded Mexico 2-0 in the final.  Canadian #1 and Team Captain, Hollie Naughton of Oakville, ON defeated Mexico’s #1 Maria Fernanda Rivera 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-7), while Chloe Chemtob of Montreal, QC defeated Mexico’s Aneliza Rangel 3-0 (11-9, 12-10,

    Belo Horizonte, Brazil (June 23, 2013) – The Canadian junior women’s Pan-American Team captured gold at the Pan American Junior Squash Championships in Belo-Horizonte, Brazil to conclude a very successful week for the Canadian women.  The second seeded Canadian Team won the gold medal over first seeded Mexico 2-0 in the final.  Canadian #1 and Team Captain, Hollie Naughton of Oakville, ON defeated Mexico’s #1 Maria Fernanda Rivera 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-7), while Chloe Chemtob of Montreal, QC defeated Mexico’s Aneliza Rangel 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-9) to seal the win for Canada.  The third member of the Canadian Jr. Women’s Team was Evelyn Moorhouse of Calgary, AB. The team was coached by Melanie Jans of Georgetown, ON. 

    The Canadian Women’s Team finishes the Pan American Championships with a gold in Women’s Singles, won by Hollie Naughton and a silver medal in Women’s Doubles won by Chloe Chemtob and Evelyn Moorhouse. 

    The Canadian Men were in the Bronze Medal match against Argentina, however the final score was not available. The Canadian Men’s Team is comprised of Jarryd Osborne of Kingston, ON, Calvin Wren of Gatineau, QC, Michael Thompson of Vancouver, BC and Devin Hinchey of Yellowknife, NWT. The team was coached by Jonathan Hill of Calgary, AB. 

    About the Pan-American Junior Squash Championships

    The Pan-American Championships serve as a compliment to the quadrennial Pan-American Games, with the Pan-Am Championships being held during the three years of the four year cycle when the Pan-Am Games are not being contested. The Pan-American Junior Squash Championships are open to under-19 squash players in North and South America with athletes competing for medals in boys’ and girls’ singles, boys’ and girls’ doubles, mixed doubles, and teams.
