Cornett & Delierre Play Opening Matches In Glasgow

    Ottawa (ON) – The first round of Squash singles kicked off today at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Representing Canada in the Women’s draw, Sam Cornett defeated Australia’s Sarah Cardwell in 3 straight games, 11-5, 11-7,11-7. She will face England’s Jenny Duncalf in the round of 16 Friday, July 25.

Representing Canada in the Women’s draw, Sam Cornett defeated Australia’s Sarah Cardwell in 3 straight games, 11-5, 11-7,11-7. She will face England’s Jenny Duncalf in the round of 16 Friday, July 25.

    Shawn Delierre is representing Canada in the Men’s Division and won his first Match in 3 games. He defeated Papua New Guinea’s Moreaina Wei 11-0, 11-2, 11-5 to make it to the round of 32. He then faced Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly which was a battle to the end, against the 11th seed. The match went five games, Shawn losing the first two 11-2 and 11-7. Delierre won games three and four 11-9 and 11-8. Cuskelly took game five 11-8.
